Garuda, the Vahan of Lord Vishnu is depicted with a pair of wings, a beak and a human body. Garud is the mightiest divine eagle, the enemy of serpents, and the mount for Lord Vishnu. Garuda is incharge of protecting and maintaining the welfare of Vishnu devotees. In ancient times, the kingdoms used Garud symbolically in their forts or war flags as a symbol of impetuous violent force added with speed and martial prowess. Powerful warriors advancing rapidly on doomed foes similar to to Garuda swooping down on a serpent. Defeated warriors are like snakes beaten down by Garuda.
